Dakota county signals digitizing
Sep 21st, 2009 at 7:12am

Have noticed some signals being digitized for the past week on Dakota county. Nothing at my location has changed, same antenna, no changes to BCD996T settings. I can visually view the water tower near Marie and South Robert at my location through the tree branches. I am four floors above street level at Grand Ave W and 3rd ST N, South St Paul. Anyone else noticing this?  Undecided

Sporadic digitizing on TG's and DCC at times. Not constantly experiencing digitizing.
Undecided

Hey, Jrocky!  I live a few blocks from 3rd and Grand! What is the best way to listen to SSP PD and Fire.  Thinking about getting a PSR-500 or -600.  When you say digitizing, you just mean going digital, right?  Not something beyond that...  I would hate to spend $500 and then not be able to listen to SSP!

Marcopolo456,

Digitizing is the term used for received signals that 'break up' very rapidly. Happens only occasionally. Even DCC experiences this time to time due to poor locations of squads.

South Metro fire and South St Paul PD are on the Dakota county ARMER system. In addition to those you will hear all dispatches to all departments on the Dakota county ARMER system. You may experience missing some calls for SSFD & SSPD when the scanner is locked on another Talk Group. There is not a way that I know that you can set priority for any specific talk group.

There are two towers close to South St Paul, one at Marie & Robert in West St Paul, and one down in Inver Grove Heights. If you have 'line of sight' to those you should be able to have good reception on the scanners you listed.

Thank you very much!  That's very helpful.  I am hoping the RS digitals come down in price after Thanksgiving.  MAy try to pick one up used.

Hi again Jrocky!

Well, I got my scanner - a RS Pro-96 which I really like.  But I do notice also that DC PD 1, 2 and 3 tend to still digitize a little.  Most come in pretty clear, but some are garble-y.  Ramsey and Washington conunties come in absolutely great!

Any tips for a newbee?

I have a BC996XT just bought 6 weeks ago
Live in Forest Lake Anoka County Breaks
Washinton Co 100% excellent
Anyone With a Pro-2096 wanting a new BC996XT
Will trade with cash difference
When i lived in Fridley had 1 that radio always broke from all the towers
Wish i had 1 now bring in Anoka co
Would consider other radio's for trade this 996xt is too comlicated for me on settings ect.

It's likely not the radio that is causing your issue, I doubt changing to a 2096 would change anything if you have it programed the same.
